Episode 20 - Open to Change

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Wed, 23 Jul 2008 04:01:36 -0400
Are open educational resources such as iTunes U and thought-provoking dot-coms such as BigThink.com a distraction from the mission of professors and universities, or the wave of the future? Tom, Mills, and Dan debate the merits of “open access” intellectual content in the feature story. We also follow up on Dan’s experience with buying a book from PublicDomainReprints.org, compare the MacBook Air with the small, cheap laptops discussed on the last episode of Digital Campus, and discuss the laun Shared & Reseller Webhosting

I GOT THUNDER BLACK WOMEN SONGWRITERS AND THEIR CRAFT

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Tue, 22 Jul 2008 04:03:18 -0400
Go to the San Francisco Chronicle for the full review. The research for LaShonda Barnett’s book “I Got Thunder: Black Women Songwriters on Their Craft” was exhaustive, but Barnett, a Sarah Lawrence College writing professor, took her time. For a two-book set, the first of which is “I Got Thunder,” Barnett interviewed 40 of her favorite female African American singer-songwriters, including Abbey Lincoln, Brenda Russell, Chaka Kahn, Dianne Reeves, Miriam Makeba, Nina Simone, Nona Hendryx, Od Affiliate Marketing Tools

Spreading the Thunder

Those of you who have been with me since the beginning (on myspace, when I actually blogged more than a few times a semester) know that I do not endorse a product, service, or anything else that I do not love dearly myself.  That's why today I am writing to tell you about a life-changing little slice of the internet that has, well, changed my life.  I don't want you to think that I have reduced myself to being a spokesperson for some random website out there.  Instead, make no mistake, I am tryi Affiliate Marketing Tools

A podcast

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Fri, 18 Jul 2008 04:01:02 -0400
Today I have discovered podcasting. Okay, I have known it has existed for years but this is a personal discovery of the value of podcasting. It is not the same as if, for example, I’d discovered America. It’s of value to me even though I am pod-less. Pod-lessness is becoming increasingly rare these days. So often now I see those little white earpieces worn by people on trains and buses. They are podded. “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” does rather spring to mind when I see them. In that movie

The Pod Invasion Continues

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Thu, 17 Jul 2008 04:01:16 -0400
Let me get this out of the way: More podcast exercises don’t make me like it more. While I’m impressed with what other libraries, such as Arizona State University, Denver Public Library and Sheridan Libraries have done to incorporate podcasts and videos into their website, I don’t see myself avidly podcasting either. I can see some of the work that is needed to make podcasts successful, and it is a big undertaking. If the Library starts posting podcasts, we need to make sure entries are added r Affiliate Marketing Tools

The Pritzker Military Library

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Wed, 16 Jul 2008 04:01:50 -0400
The Pritzker Military Library, a "public institution for the study of the citizen-soldier as an essential element for the preservation of democracy." Found while doing some after-film research on Charlie Wilson's War, the site is a trove of largely non-partisan, often refreshingly candid military perspectives. Particular highlights are video and audio interviews with Jim Lovell and Congressional Medal of Honor winners. Shared & Reseller Webhosting

learning command line

by Podcast feeds (podcast-feeds) @ Mon, 14 Jul 2008 04:05:01 -0400
I spent most of today outside of my box expanding my horizons. I went to my first web conference (my first anything conference) called Northern Voice 2008, I learned things about blogging and social media on the Internet that I don’t entirely understand the basics for, I was alone (which means I had to make friends with people I wouldn’t normally get the chance to be around and thus have a really hard time relating to with such a basic technical awareness!), and then I came home to update my bl
